Compensating for deficiencies

In volleyball, I compensate for my height by jumping higher. That's how I can play against people more than half a foot taller than me.

Today, I realized that in softball, I compensate for my utter lack of batting skills by simply running faster. 5 of out the 6 times I went to bat, I managed to get onto the bases! But, it sure wasn't because I hit well. Even when my hits were caught inside the diamond, I still managed to make it onto first base by running my ass off. The one time that I didn't make it onto the base, they just got me. Even my running skills weren't able to compensate for that hit.
