Steak and potatoes
Made myself a rather tasty dinner tonight :). Red wine marinated steak (as suggested from this site telling me that everything I know about grilling is wrong) and fries made from scratch!
I marinated the steak in Robert Mondavi red wine (it was on sale at the LCBO) and the Keg steak spice. It was the first time I marinated meat. It was definitely more tender, though it had a bit too much wine taste. Maybe I just marinated it too much (overnight). Next time I'll try something else, maybe a little sweeter as it was a little bitter this time from the wine. I actually felt my face getting a little red from the wine :s. I guess I did a good job of sealing the juices in :).
For the fries, I cut up two potatoes, mixed in some chopped onions, oil, steak spice, olive oil, parsley flakes, red chili flakes, cajan spice, and probably some other random spices. Then, I laid it out on parchment paper, which is non-sticky, but absorbs and keeps too much moisture, and put it in the oven for like 30-40 min. I should probably use aluminum foil to make the fries crispier, but I get annoyed when it sticks, esp. with little bits of the foil sticks to the fries.

mmm that looks absolutely delicious, fellow blogger. =)
keep up the good work!
Looks tasty. Those are a lot of fries. Did you eat them all?
YES :D
So, I'm a pig, sue me...
Next time, you should try sweet potato fries (just add a little vegetable oil, and some seasoning salt). I am a complete convert now, they are so much better than regular fries!
I agree. I made sweet potato hash browns last week. UNREAL!
I love sweet potato fries too but I have a hard time getting them crispy enough. I suggest brown mustard for dipping instead of ketchup. That's how they serve them at Osborne Freehouse.
You know presentation is usually key in making a meal that people will ou and ah over. I'll have to send you some pics next time I cook... Last night I had Steak in a wine marinade too, but with mushrooms sauted in the same wine and served with crispy hash browns.
Hahahaha, well, I don't have a dish washer or anyone to impress in person, so my first goal is to reduce the number of dishes I use. You're fortunate to see the steak on a plate rather than me just eating it off the frying pan :)
Yes, I should've grilled some mushrooms, I'll save it for next time.
Yummy! How'd you get those fries to look so much like fries? Are you using a special cutting tool?
I just finished watching a movie where there was a guy named Steak and Fries.
Just a cutting board and a knife.
I have a fry cutting thing back in Winnipeg and it makes the work pretty easy, but it's not that hard manually.

I just noticed something.. Dude.. are you using a blue plastic tarp as your tablecloth? If so, CLASSY! :)
It's blue and it's plasticky, but it's not a tarp. It's an actual tablecloth. Hey, it was cheap...
